Enjoy the magazine...hate the tricky renewal offers, all the ads they now have and less content then before.

While I do enjoy the photos, there isn't much content left if you remove photos and ads. I went thru a previous issue taking notes about what was on each page. If you remove pages with ads and double page photos (with no real information except the name of what's in the photo) you are now down to 50% of the magazine left for content. Of that 50% at least 30% is more pictures (I included the covers, contents and Editor/Magazine Info pages in my โ€œcontentโ€ count). But if you remove the Front and Back covers and Contents Page from the count you are now down to about 19 pages containing actual information with more than 2 sentences.

From what I've found......If you DO NOT WANT "Auto Renewal" you will have to renew thru the mail usually with an offer form sent with your magazine. You will notice there is a "BONUS" offer on renewal forms with your magazine to take another $5 off. That offer is available when you go online. The bonus is $5 off the rate of $12.98 for 1 year (or $7.98 with bonus) and $29.98 for 2 years plus a free extra year (or $24.98 with bonus). Problem with that is you MUST go with AUTO RENEWAL.

While I have never signed up for auto renew with Birds and Blooms I did use it once with another service. When I decided I no longer wanted the service it took days of trying to get it cancelled using e-mails, chats and phone calls. I will never go with "Auto Renew" for anything even if it saves $5. I have called Birds and Blooms customer service to try and renew using the $5 Bonus without the auto renew but was not successful in doing so. While it couldnโ€™t hurt you to try and call asking for the same thing you may have to call a few times to speak with someone you understand clearly so you don't mistakenly sign up for something you do not want.

While they are not sending out false advertising I do consider it a sneaky sales tactic at best. Itโ€™s like a trap to get those wanting the discount to sign up online (saving postage) and to get you into an auto renewal contract where they can charge you whatever price they want at renewal time hoping you wonโ€™t want to take the time to try and get a lower price. Auto Renewal contracts can be time consuming to end and they will have your credit card information stored for as long as your subscription is active (potentially 3 years).

While I have enjoyed Birds and Blooms magazine for many years the growing number of ads, lessening amount of content, and tricky renewal tactics will keep me from renewing my subscription.
